Kosair Children’s, supported by The Children’s Hospital Foundation, provides care, research and support to the children and families of the Ohio River Valley. Since 1892, the hospital and its predecessor organizations have served the community’s children, offering care for the tiniest premature infants to heart transplants, advanced neurosurgical procedures and cancer treatment.
More than 80 children are newly diagnosed with cancer each year at Kosair Children’s, a statistic that strongly points to the need for a cancer care center in the area. To answer that call, The Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center was founded at Kosair Children’s Hospital. The Blair Cancer Care Center is affiliated with the Children’s Oncology Group, the National Cancer Institute and the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. These associations provide access to highly advanced cancer research, diagnosis and treatment during the earliest stages of the disease. The funds from this year’s Louisville Concours d’Elegance are earmarked to benefit this particular extension of The Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Serving nearly 140,000 children in Kentucky and southern Indiana annually, Kosair Children’s Hospital and Kosair Children’s Medical Center – Brownsboro are Kentucky’s only full-service, free-standing source for pediatric care. This regional facility treats all children regardless of family resources and relies a great deal on community backing. The 263-bed hospital also serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville. Kosair Children’s is one of the top children’s hospitals in the United States according to the U.S. News Media Group’s 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.
