Behind the Name
The name of the resort's signature restaurant pays tribute to May 17, 1875, the date of the first Kentucky Derby. Guests often came to French Lick by private railroad cars and then traveled 60 miles south for the big race. Afterwards they would often come back to the hotel and stay for a few weeks before heading north to the Indianapolis 500.

Clos Pegase Wine & Dinner Event
Wednesday, April 21 • 6:30pm

Treat yourself to an evening of phenomenal food, art, wine and cultured discussion at French Lick Resort with Clos Pegase winery owner Jan Shrem. With vineyards in the Napa Valley and the foothills of Mt. St. Helens, Shrem’s award winning Calistoga, California winery, produces fare-friendly wines of quiet elegance.

On April 21, the staff of 1875: The Steakhouse will prepare a six-course wine dinner to feature the best of the Clos Pegase label. Beginning with a culinary inspired amuse-bouche and finishing with a dark chocolate decadent dessert, each course will be paired with the perfect bottle of wine to complement the meal’s flavors. Artwork from Shrem’s collection will be on display, and he will talk about the classic Greek notions of balance, symmetry and harmony that have become hallmarks of the Clos Pegase style, while discussing the history of the winery.
