25 Ways to Enjoy the Resort and Local Area (And Maintain Safe Social Distancing)

A breath of fresh air. 25 ways to enjoy our wide open spaces.

1. Take a Hike

Three different trails and the paved Ferguson Trail give you plenty of options to plan a hike or an easier stroll. Trail maps are available at the Valley Links golf shop.

2. Trek Our Newest Trail

In addition to our main trails, the Stables Hiking Trail is now open as well. This new wooded trail takes you from West Baden Springs Hotel to The Stables and back, covering 1.4 miles round trip.

3. Soak in the Holiday Cheer

More than a dozen Christmas trees, a half-million twinkling lights, a festive gingerbread house and holiday villages. And that's just the start. Take a stroll and see all the spectacular holiday decorations at the resort, both indoors and out.

4. See French Lick Springs Hotel Light Up Every Night

Sticking with the holiday theme, each night you can see a winter wonderland come to life at French Lick Springs Hotel. Catch one of the projection light shows, which use 3D animation to transform the hotel's exterior into a vibrant holiday scene. See the shows each night at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

5. Fun & Games at the F.L.E.X.

Hit the F.L.E.X. (French Lick Exhibition Hall) for games galore: pickleball, mini golf, billiards soccer, basketball and cornhole. Just $5 gets you access to all five games. (Available starting November 26.)

6. Grab Your Food To Go

Order from our new online menus and take food to-go from Power Plant Bar & Grill or Pluto's Pizzeria. Ballard's in the Atrium also has to-go ordering via phone. (A Pluto's deep dish from your cozy hotel room on a chilly winter night would hit the spot, wouldn't it?)

7. Holiday Activities for the Whole Family

From outdoor hikes to indoor Christmas-themed scavenger hunts to holiday movies at the indoor pool, 'tis the season for some fun. The kids can even write a letter to the North Pole during their stay and receive a reply from Santa himself in time for Christmas.

8. Fire It Up

We've got the weekend vibes going every Friday and Saturday night on the Spring House Patio. Relax outside by the fire pits at Fire Up the Weekend and enjoy complimentary s'mores and live acoustic guitar entertainment.

9. Take Aim at the Shooting Range

Head to our 73-acre sporting clays range and simulate the thrill of a hunt. Take aim on clay targets through a variety of trajectories, speeds, elevations, distances and target sizes. Ideal for novice or experienced marksmen, and open throughout the winter as the weather allows.

10. Explore All the Great Outdoors

Caves, caverns and forests really let you know you've gotten away — and our little corner of the world in southern Indiana is full of 'em. Tour Marengo Cave, plan a trek at Indiana Caverns, or work in a hike at the Hoosier National Forest. Or, plan a day at Spring Mill State Park or Lincoln State Park to see the site of Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home.

11. Saddle up for a Ride

The Stables at French Lick Resort are open throughout the winter, weather permitting. A horseback ride on our trails is the perfect social distancing alternative, and The Stables are also open for pony rides and barn tours.

12. Brush Up on Your History

Indiana Landmarks tours have resumed, and these tours offered Wednesday through Saturday illuminate some of the fascinating history inside French Lick and West Baden Springs Hotels.

Want to learn some of the resort's history at your own speed? Pick up a historical walking tour brochure and find some of the outdoor historical sites at both historic hotel properties. Did you know tomato juice was first served as a breakfast drink right here at French Lick?

13. See Wilstem's Wild Side

From their new drive-thru safari to their Winter Fest with 2.5 million lights, nearby Wilstem Wildlife Park has plenty to offer even in the winter. Less than a 10-minute drive from the resort, Wilstem also has several of their exotic animal encounters open throughout the winter, both indoors and outdoors.

14. See the Attractions in Town

Several more attractions within a short drive (or even walking distance) are open in the towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs. Head to French Lick Winery for a wine tasting and a bite to eat off their new menu, which features more gluten-free and vegetarian options. Kid-friendly attractions are up and running, too, including the Big Splash Adventure water park, Escape! French Lick, and French Lick-West Baden Indoor Karting.

15. Dive On In

It's always 70 and sunny at our indoor pools, which are open at both French Lick and West Baden Springs Hotels.

16. Trek the Tenderloin Trail

Pork tenderloin lovers, rejoice: There's finally a celebration of your favorite Hoosier State sandwich. The Indiana Foodways Alliance has highlighted nearly 75 places statewide where you can find the best tenderloins, and three of the stops on their Tenderloin Lovers Trail are right here in French Lick. Find them downtown at 33 Brick Street and the German Cafe.

17. Take a Lesson, or Play a Quick Nine

Private lessons at the Valley Links Course are available throughout the winter, if you're looking for that scorecard boost once spring golf starts. Any aspect, or multiple areas of your game, can be addressed during each 45-minute lesson. Weather permitting, the 9-hole Valley Links Course is open throughout the winter as well.

18. Experience FootGolf

Staying at Valley Links Course for the next recommendation, have you ever tried FootGolf? You play the course with the traditional golf rules and etiquette, but a soccer ball replaces the golf ball and your feet are used instead of clubs. Families love this, and literally anyone — whether you're age 9 or 90 — can play. Play either 9 or 18 holes, or try the new 14-hole Short Course for unlimited play all day.

19. Pick Up a Board Game

Visit the front desk at French Lick Springs Hotel and check out a board game free of charge. Find a quiet spot in the lobby to play, or take a game up to your room. Ping-pong is also available at the hotel's indoor pool.

20. Head Out for a Run

If you're the type to stick to your running routine even away from home, the resort and surrounding community offer some different looks for your workout. The Ferguson Trail, which runs between French Lick and West Baden Springs Hotels, is a great route that you can make as short or long as you'd like. Up for a tougher workout? The steep side streets in the towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs can challenge you with hills and elevation you don't see in Indiana very often.

21. Try Your Luck

French Lick Casino is open, and with precautions and social distancing in place, you'll be able to keep a safe distance while playing your favorite slots and table games again.

22. Do a Spa Day

Let's face it: We could all benefit from de-stressing and mentally recharging right about now. The Spas at French Lick and West Baden are the place to do it. Wind down with some "me" time and a soothing massage, facial, manicure, pedicure or bath.

23. Sip On Select Bourbons

Any bourbon fans in the group? Be sure to pick up a bottle of our French Lick Select Bourbons. Choose from the Woodford Reserve Personal Select or the Maker’s Mark 46 Barrel Stave. Select a unique blend personally crafted and approved by the French Lick Resort Food & Beverage team. Pick up a bottle at Ballard's Bar in West Baden Springs Hotel.

24. Bird Watching

If you’re in French Lick, shouldn’t you pay homage to Larry Legend? Ask a local how to get to Larry Bird's boyhood home, his last residence and the high school gym where it all started.

25. Ride the Rails

The historic rail trolley is one of those must-do experiences during your stay. Rides are always free on the trolley, which pings back and forth between French Lick and West Baden Springs Hotels. And elbow room is always plentiful, as the trolley car is marked for social distancing.
