FRENCH LICK, Ind. – Many well-known performers are scheduled to visit the French Lick Resort over the next few months. Music lovers and people who just want a laugh will have the opportunity to see some of the industry’s top performers up close and personal in the resort’s 1,600 seat venue. Performer’s Include: Huey Lewis & The News Aug. 8, 8 p.m. Huey Lewis & The News is a Grammy-winning and Academy Award-nominated American rock band based in San Francisco, California. Their greatest success was in the 1980s, when they were one of the most popular music acts of the decade. The band is known for writing simple, light-hearted songs from a working-class perspective and typically appealed to yuppies and baby boomers. Combining a rock (and sometimes, a "blues rock") backing with soul and doowop-influenced harmony vocals and Lewis's voice, they reached enormous success and had numerous hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. “Do You Believe in Love”, “The Power of Love”, “Jacob’s Ladder”, “I Want a New Drug”, “The Heart of Rock & Roll”, “If This is It”, “Stuck with You”, and “Hip to be Square” are just a few best known songs by Huey Lewis & The News. Bob & Tom All-Stars Aug. 22, 8 p.m. This Indianapolis-based radio show, hosted by Bob Kevoian and Tom Griswold, has brought laughter to morning car rides and households across the country since it was syndicated nationally in 1995. The Bob and Tom Show only aired locally in the Indianapolis area 12 years prior. The morning show also includes Chick McGee who acts as sports commentator as well as comic foil, and Kristi Lee, the shows news anchor and occasional target of the show's humor. Each day, there are usually several guests on the show, including many comedians seeking a national fan base, but also sports stars, rich debutantes and other celebrities and pseudo-celebrities. During the show, pre-recorded comic songs and skits are often played, including many from a large library of archived pieces. Styx Aug. 29, 8 p.m. Through the late 1970s, Styx enjoyed its greatest success. The Grand Illusion became the group’s breakthrough album, reaching triple platinum certification and spawning a top-ten hit, “Come Sail Away” as well as a second radio hit, “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)”. Their second album, Pieces of Eight, found the group moving in a more straight-ahead pop-rock direction and spawned hit singles, “Renegade” and “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)”. Other hits on later albums that have made the band famous are “Babe”, “Why Me”, “Borrowed Time”, and “Mr. Roboto”. Bill Engvall Sept. 20, 7 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. It's the quality of sharing the humor in everyday situations that has made Bill Engvall one of the top comedians today and among the busiest. He is perhaps best known for his punch line phrase “Here’s Your Sign” and starring in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour with fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White. Currently, Bill is starring in and executive producing the 2nd season of the half hour sitcom for TBS entitled "The Bill Engvall Show." He also hosts one of the top rated shows on CMT, “Country Fried Home Videos”. Bill’s latest project consists of filming the movie "Bait Shop" which co-stars Billy Ray Cyrus. The film will be released on DVD in the summer of 2008. Additionally, Bill starred in the movie "Delta Farce" with Larry the Cable Guy and D.J. Qualls, which was released on May 11, 2007. The Beach Boys Oct. 17 Formed in 1961, The Beach Boys gained popularity for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a California youth culture of surfing, girls, and cars. This core quintet, along with early member David Marks and later bandmate Bruce Johnston, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band” and have had thirty-six U.S. Top 40 hits (the most of any U.S. rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number one singles.
