Resort seeks additional employees as it approaches its busy season
FRENCH LICK, IN (March 20, 2009) - Despite recent rumors, French Lick Resort is not going out of business. In fact, the Southern Indiana resort destination is holding its own while other destinations are struggling.
“The tourism industry has been hit hard by the recession. Just look at The Greenbrier situation,” said Mark Bommarito, vice president of sales & marketing. “We have taken a hard look at our expenses and made prudent efforts to be more fiscally responsible. This has allowed us to weather the economy better than some destinations.”
Effects of the economy on group business have been extremely minimal. “Even during these challenging times, we have had very few cancellations,” said Adina Cloud, director of sales. “We work with hundreds of groups a year and less than a handful have had to postpone or cancel.” Group rooms are actually up over the same time last year.
Another indication of the resort’s resilience is the fact that bookings at West Baden Springs Hotel, which demands a higher room rate, are up almost 50% from last year.
These accomplishments are significant given that the resort is just now approaching its busy season. As occupancy increases over the next few months, the resort is seeking individuals for part-time and summer seasonable opportunities. A job fair will be held on Tuesday, April 7 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the resort’s Windsor Ballroom. The available positions include areas such as housekeeping, food and beverage, customer service and more. Schedules will be varied and include evening and weekend hours. On-site interviews will be offered during the event.
