FRENCH LICK, IN (July 27, 2009) — French Lick Resort is encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to tune up their bikes and lace up their hiking boots! From leisurely strolls to extreme biking, the resort has something for everyone.
Explore on foot or bike the three wilderness trails surrounding the 3,000-acre resort. These beautiful paths, ranging from 1 to 4.5 miles, include a self-guided tour past several historical points of interest. See where the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs and legendary boxer Joe Louis spent their time training in West Baden. Stroll through the sunken garden, the site of the world-famous Hygeia and Apollo mineral springs. Visit the site of the thriving dairy that once supplied all the milk, cheese, butter and ice cream to French Lick’s kitchen. With nearly twenty site attractions available to hikers and bikers, the best way to discover the history of French Lick Resort is close up and on foot.
In addition to many scenic attractions, guests have the opportunity to enjoy the resort’s natural beauty along the way. Bordering the Hoosier National Forest, guests are sure to find a variety of trees, plants and wildlife that call French Lick “home.”
More extreme cyclists can hit the road on one of three road courses throughout Orange County. These routes, consisting of nearly 100 miles of back road biking, have everything from trails through a state park to country roads through fields and orchards. Bikers have the option explore 40 miles of beautiful trails meandering along the 8,800 acre man-made lake on the Patoka Lake Excursion, take a 35-mile journey through the winding roads of the Southern Indiana on the Pete Dye Route, or simply take in the sites and sounds on an 18-mile Donald Ross Warm Up.
Bicycles are for rent at the Valley Links Learning Center for $5 per hour. Tandem bicycles may also be rented for $7.50 per hour. Helmets are included.
A detailed trail map is available to download on www.frenchlick.com or may be picked up at various French Lick Resort outlets. For more information or to book a room, please call our reservations specialists at 888.936.9360.
