French Lick Resort Offers Quilts and More Weekend
Guests will have the opportunity to meet world-renowned quilter, Karen Stone
FRENCH LICK, IN — Quilters, knitters and weavers alike will find the ultimate getaway at French Lick Resort’s “Quilts and More Weekend”. On February 26 – 28, guests will enjoy a quiet and textile art extravaganza including educational workshops, a quilt/fabric art exhibit, and a dinner featuring a wearable art fashion show.
The resort is especially thrilled to have award-winning quilter, Karen Stone, on hand throughout the weekend to offer advice and share the latest trends in the industry. Considered one of America’s top quilters and speakers, Karen has won a legion of fans as well as several international awards. Her dazzling quilts have also appeared on the covers of popular quilting magazines and catalogs.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet Karen and other guest speakers during a welcome reception on Friday evening. Complete with a wine bar, hors d’oeuvres and jazz trio, the reception will be held from 6 – 9 p.m.
Workshops focusing on an array of textile and fabric arts will be offered on Saturday. Regional artists Karen Kay Buckley, Mary Buvia, Robin Edmundson, Suzanne Halvorson, Daren Redman will be among some of the workshop leaders. Bernina representatives will also be leading classes on every aspect of sewing.
Each workshop will include hands-on participation. Demonstrations will be conducted by workshop leaders and supplies will be available at every class. Workshops will be offered for a variety of interests including quilting weaving, needlepoint, embroidery, spinning, crocheting, color theory, machine-and-hand piecing and machine-and-hand quilting.
In addition to the workshops, participants as well as the public are invited to view award-winning quilts, textiles and other fabric art creations on display throughout the weekend. Patrons are also welcome to attend a trade show held in French Lick’s Windsor Ballroom. Vendor displays will be open from 5 – 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening, a dinner, wearable art fashion show and a special keynote presentation will be held for participants only.
For those who are interested, an all-inclusive package, including overnight accommodations at French Lick, is available. Total package price is $399, based on double occupancy ($200 per person).
