"Blues, Cruise and Barbeque" comes to French Lick Resort
Registration still available for Backyard BBQ and Pro Divisions
FRENCH LICK, IN — Calling all grillmasters! Spots are still available in the Backyard BBQ division at the Blues, Cruise & BBQ event being held at French Lick Resort August 13-14.
“We are excited to be hosting a KCBS-sanctioned competition that features pro teams from around the region,” said Douglas May, Director of Entertainment. “The great thing about this event is that backyard enthusiasts get to be part of it as well.”
Those who believe they have the tastiest BBQ in the neighborhood are welcome to enter. Participants will have the opportunity to win cash prizes and take home backyard bragging rights for cookin’ up the best meat. Categories are the same as for the pro teams and include chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket, pork shoulder or butt. The fee is $25 per category. A panel of local celebrity judges will choose the backyard winner.
As for the pro division, there are still a few spots open. Teams throughout the Midwest are currently registered and include Three Mac’s BBQ, Bluechip BBQ, Rib Runners, Jay Are-B-Q, Hoosier Crawdaddy, Partners in Swine BBQ, Weiskracks BBQ, Sonny Ja’s Barbeque, Ribs and Bibs, Waiz Guy BBQ, Lion Bout the Q, Able Acres BBQ, B and R Smokin Sales, Rinky Dink Smokers, The Flying Burritos, Delta Smoke, Hoosier Smokehouse BBQ, Rollin Ribs, Hot Racks and BBQ Stacks, Bronze Star BBQ, Eagle River Barbeque, Bourbon Barrel BBQ, Fowl Butt BBQ, Stink Eye BBQ, Hoosier Favorite BBQ and Baby G’s BBQ.
Don’t BBQ, but enjoy eating it? Anyone is welcome to stop by throughout the weekend. The event is free to the public and includes fun for the whole family. Inflatable attractions for the kids will be open on Friday from 5 – 10 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 am. – 3 p.m. Children can also enjoy the balloon artist which will be on hand from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday. Local artisans, including a blacksmith, pottery worker and sculptor, will also be demonstrating their work both days. To battle the heat, several crowd misters will be available.
Live entertainment, including two Louisville bands, will be performing both days. The Predators will kick things off on Friday evening from 5-10 p.m. and will play Classic Rock favorites from The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Lenny Kravitz and more.
One of Louisville’s premiere Blues Bands, Da Mudcats, is scheduled to appear on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The group, which includes Rob Pickett, Gene Wickliffe and Mike Lynch, has released five albums, including two that were distributed nationally under the Ear X-Tacy label.
A cruise in, including all makes and models, will be held on Friday and Saturday and is open to anyone who would like to participate. Registration is free and can be done just outside the Valley Links Learning Center. The Best of Show winner will be announced at 3 p.m. as well as the BBQ winners.
