Preservation Month

Book Now

When you have something great, you’ve got to share it with the world. That’s how we feel about our story of history and preservation. And we’re proudly highlighting both for you to experience during our Preservation Month all throughout May.

Just five hotels in Indiana earn designation by Historic Hotels of America, and we’re proud to have two of them with West Baden Springs Hotel (awarded Best Historic Hotel in the 2017 Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence) and French Lick Springs Hotel. This is one of the only places in the country with two HHA hotels on the same property. For any history buff, this is a perfect one-stop shop to soak in the unique history of both hotels whose histories date back to the mid-1800s.

Activity Guide

French Lick Tomato Juice Label

Dine at 1875: The Steakhouse and get a complimentary sampling of tomato juice, which was first created here in 1917 by a resourceful chef. Have breakfast at The Grand Colonnade Restaurant in the ballroom where Franklin D. Roosevelt once launched his presidency in the early ’30s. Learn the story behind how West Baden Springs Hotel was built in less than a year and the unheralded architect who conceptualized this “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

Family at the trolley station

Indiana Landmarks Tours, offered daily at both hotels, offer a fascinating glimpse into our history. Trolley tours with our historian and self-guided walking tours will also give you a little taste of history, while Afternoon Tour and Tea treats you to history with a side of tea and goodies under the iconic West Baden dome. Keep an eye out for our special summer Twilight Tours conducted by costumed characters from the early 20th Century, as well as new Behind the Scenes Tours this spring.

Rolls Royce in the Atrium

During Preservation Month, celebrate history with us as displays and demonstrations will be scattered throughout the resort — check out classic car displays, old slot machines from the old days when gambling was illegal, as well as vintage art displays and demos.

Larry Bird Memoribilia

Hankering for more history? The French Lick West Baden Museum in town has plenty more about this area’s past, as do other museums within a short drive. You’ll be surprised how much rich history is packed into our small towns.
